What is funnel chest and how is it treated?
Funnel chest is when there is a cup like deformity usually located in the lower part of the chest. It is known as ‘Pectus excavatum’ and is also commonly referred to as ‘Sunken Chest’. It is much more common in boys than girls and often becomes more apparent during the adolescent growth spurt. It occurs in roughly 1 in every 500 births and there is often a family history of the condition, although no specific genetic abnormalities have been identified.
