Only 1% of railway network covered by Kavach in India
The Kavach system, an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system developed by the Indian Railways, has only been implemented on a small portion of the railway network. Currently, it covers only 1,465 route kilometers and 121 locomotives in the South Central Railway zone. The system is designed to prevent trains from passing red signals and activate the braking system if the driver fails to do so. The implementation of Kavach is still in progress in other zones, and the railways plan to deploy it on 6,000 route kilometers in total.
