‘Mumbai must build on lessons learnt during pandemic’
Suresh Kakani, BMC’s additional municipal commissioner, was only three months into his assignment with the corporation when the pandemic hit Mumbai in March 2020. A man honed over the years in infrastructure development, setting up of airports and making them profitable, Kakani was only learning the ropes of public health when the city’s first two Covid-19 cases arrived. Yet, the 2003 batch IAS officer hit the ground running and emerged as one of the most prominent faces of Mumbai’s battle against coronavirus. As he approaches retirement on April 30, Kakani told Mumbai Mirror that he is not tired and is raring for the new chapter of his life. “The last two years were the most enriching in my public service career spanning 35 years,” he admitted. “Each day taught a new lesson in governance, decision-making and people skills,” he added.
