1.1L more deaths in Maha in 2020, but Covid toll 55k
Maharashtra registered nearly 1.6 lakh additional deaths in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic struck, a jump of 16.6% from the previous year. It is the highest increase in all-cause deaths seen in a decade by the state and goes to show how the virus hit the population hard.
